The Basic Pepper Spray course is designed to provide security professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively use pepper spray as a defensive tool. This training emphasizes proper deployment techniques, legal considerations, and best practices for using pepper spray in various security scenarios.

Important Information:

To be eligible to apply for a security guard registration through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS), you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old (BPC Section 7582.8)
  • Undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) (BPC Sections 7581 and 7583.9) and
  • Complete this 8-hour Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training.

Online Basic Guard Card courses are now prohibited by state regulations (BP Code § 7583.7(b)(1)). This course is in person and compliant with all BSIS regulations.

Description:

The BSIS Guard Card course is an 8-hour class that covers the required Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training. You must pass a written test before you can submit your application. The training certificate will be issued at the end of the course.

All classes currently taught by Guardian Training Center are in English.   At this time, we do not provide or allow translators to accompany students during CA State BSIS-certification classes, nor do we allow usage of translation applications "apps", software or other translation services to be used during classes.  Students who attend these classes must be fluent in the English language and be able to understand, read and write in English.

  • The cost of the course does NOT include the BSIS application fee or the Live Scan fee for the DOJ/FBI Criminal Background Check that are mandatory requirements.
  • Guard Cards are issued by BSIS, NOT this training facility. The process with BSIS usually takes 2-3 weeks but can take up to 8 weeks.
  • Guardian Training Center requires 3 days (72 hours) cancellation/rescheduling notice prior to your scheduled arrival date and time; otherwise, you will be charged a cancellation/rescheduling fee of 50%.
  • A minimum class size of 5 students is required to hold this class. If we do not reach that number by 72 hours prior to class, class will be cancelled, and you will be placed in the next scheduled class and notified by email. Or you may cancel for a full refund.
  • Anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to take the course. GUARDIAN TRAINING CENTER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE.

Introduction to Firearms – Women’s Only Class

Overview:

Empower yourself with knowledge and confidence in our 4-hour Women-Only Introduction to Firearms class. This course is designed specifically for women, providing a comfortable and supportive environment for beginners and those looking to refresh their skills. Our female instructors will guide you through both classroom instruction and hands-on simulator training.

Classroom Instruction (3 Hours):

Our experienced instructors will cover essential topics, including:

  • Firearm Safety: Understanding and practicing the four universal safety rules.
  • Firearm Types and Components: Identifying different types of firearms and their parts.
  • Ammunition Basics: Learning about various types of ammunition and their uses.
  • Legal Considerations: Overview of local and federal laws regarding firearm ownership and usage.

Join us for a unique wellness program blending traditional Japanese health practices, movement, and mindfulness—taught by Sensei Harunaka Hoshino, a lifelong martial artist and cultural instructor from Tokyo, Japan. This class is most approriate to take with friends or partners, as the Shiatsu portion is hands-on training. Online registration is required prior to class.

About the Instructor – Sensei Harunaka Hoshino

Born in Tokyo, Japan, on January 1, 1952, Sensei Hoshino began practicing Ken-jutsu and Tameshi-giri at age seven and became a Karate expert by sixteen. After moving to San Francisco in 1971, he founded the Japanese Martial Art Training Association (1973) and the San Francisco Nipponto Society (1980). A lifelong student of traditional swordsmanship and restoration, he continues to share the art, discipline, and health principles of Japan’s warrior traditions with students around the world.
