BSIS Exposed Firearms Certification Course (16 hrs)

The BSIS Initial Exposed Firearms Course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills required to obtain a Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Exposed Firearms Permit. This comprehensive course covers firearm safety, legal considerations, and practical shooting skills to prepare participants for carrying and using a firearm responsibly in a professional security capacity.

Who Should Enroll?
This course is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in security who need to meet the BSIS training requirements for obtaining an Exposed Firearms Permit. No prior firearm experience is required.

Certification:
Participants who successfully complete the course, including the live-fire qualification, will meet the training requirements for applying for a BSIS Exposed Firearms Permit.

Duration: Approximately 14-16 hours (over 2 days)

Format: In-person, classroom instruction with live-fire range qualification

Required Equpment:

To participate in the course and complete the training, you must bring the following:

Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, passport)
Valid BSIS Guard Card (required to attend this course)
Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency (required)

Additional Recommended Items:

Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for range activities
Notebook and pen for taking notes during classroom instruction
Water bottle and any personal snacks

Required Range Equipment:

Duty-type pistol of known/reliable manufacture; 9mm, .40, .357 Sig, 10mm or .45 ACP ONLY!
MINIMUM of 3 California-compliant (10-round) magazines for the pistol.
MIMIMUM of 125 rounds of quality training ammunition of your required caliber.
Duty holster made specifically for your Duty Pistol. Must be Level II or greater. (BLACKHAWK SERPA NOT ALLOWED)
Magazine pouch for your California-compliant magazines.
Duty Belt with duty holster and magazine pouch properly affixed.
Appropriate eye and ear protection
“Boonie” or ball cap with bill. (No inappropriate/offensive logos, slogans, etc.)
CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR APPROPRIATE FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN AN AUSTERE, OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT. (NO SANDALS/OPEN TOE SHOES, NO SHORTS, NO TANK TOPS.)

BSIS Exposed Firearms Requalification Course (Simulator) - (4 hours)

The BSIS Firearms Requalification course (simulator-based) is designed for licensed security professionals needing to meet the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) firearms requalification requirements. This innovative course utilizes state-of-the-art simulation technology to provide a realistic, hands-on training experience that reinforces firearm safety, handling, and marksmanship in a controlled environment. BSIS allows one qualification shoot per year to be run on a simulator.

BSIS Firearms Re-qualification - Live Fire (4 hrs.)

This course is designed to meet the BSIS requirements for individuals to maintain their Exposed Firearms Qualifications in accordance BSIS requirements for armed security officers. We offer both live fire range time as well as a digital force option simulator.

NOTE: This course MAY be subject to cancellation 48-72 hours prior to the start of the course if the minimum required student number has not been met.

BSIS Unarmed Basic Guard Card

Important Information:

To be eligible to apply for a security guard registration through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Service (BSIS), you must:

Be at least 18 years old (BPC Section 7582.8)
Undergo a criminal history background check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) (BPC Sections 7581 and 7583.9) and
Complete this 8-hour Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training.

Note: Please wait until after completion of the course and submitting you BSIS application BEFORE doing your Livescan.

Online Basic Guard Card courses are now prohibited by state regulations (BP Code § 7583.7(b)(1)). This course is in person and compliant with all BSIS regulations.

Description:

The BSIS Guard Card course is an 8-hour class that covers the required Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training. You must pass a written test before you can submit your application. The training certificate will be issued at the end of the course.

Important Notices:

All classes currently taught by Guardian Training Center are in English. At this time, we do not provide or allow translators to accompany students during CA State BSIS-certification classes, nor do we allow usage of translation applications "apps", software or other translation services to be used during classes. Students who attend these classes must be fluent in the English language and be able to understand, read and write in English.

The cost of the course does NOT include the BSIS application fee or the Live Scan fee for the DOJ/FBI Criminal Background Check that are mandatory requirements.
Guard Cards are issued by BSIS, NOT this training facility. The process with BSIS usually takes 2-3 weeks but can take up to 8 weeks.
Guardian Training Center requires 3 days (72 hours) cancellation/rescheduling notice prior to your scheduled arrival date and time; otherwise, you will be charged a cancellation/rescheduling fee of 50%.
A minimum class size of 5 students is required to hold this class. If we do not reach that number by 72 hours prior to class, class will be cancelled, and you will be placed in the next scheduled class and notified by email. Or you may cancel for a full refund.
Anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to take the course. GUARDIAN TRAINING CENTER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE.

Longevity Enhancing Activities

Join us for a unique wellness program blending traditional Japanese health practices, movement, and mindfulness—taught by Sensei Harunaka Hoshino, a lifelong martial artist and cultural instructor from Tokyo, Japan. This class is most approriate to take with friends or partners, as the Shiatsu portion is hands-on training. Online registration is required prior to class.

Each 90-minute session includes three integrated segments designed to promote flexibility, relaxation, and sustainable healthy living:

30 minutes: Juunan-Taiso (Flexibility & Limber-Up Exercises)
Gentle full-body movements to enhance mobility, improve balance, and cultivate mindfulness through motion.
30 minutes: Shiatsu (Japanese Acupressure Massage)
Learn simple, effective techniques to relieve tension, promote circulation, and restore body balance through the art of touch. This is a hands-on practice, so friends, couples, and training partners are especially encouraged to attend together for the best experience.
30 minutes: Ancient Samurai & Ninja Diet (Japanese Longevity Foods)
Explore traditional dietary habits and food preparation methods that supported vitality and resilience for centuries. Discussions include the Okinawan approach to longevity, the importance of low-sugar, high-nutrient foods, and the role of mindful eating and daily activity in healthspan.

This course is ideal for anyone interested in enhancing flexibility, reducing stress, improving diet, and cultivating a long, active life. Students will also receive guidance on integrating meditation, healthy snacking alternatives, and lifestyle habits that align with Japan’s time-honored principles of balance and well-being.

About the Instructor – Sensei Harunaka Hoshino

Born in Tokyo, Japan, on January 1, 1952, Sensei Hoshino began practicing Ken-jutsu and Tameshi-giri at age seven and became a Karate expert by sixteen. After moving to San Francisco in 1971, he founded the Japanese Martial Art Training Association (1973) and the San Francisco Nipponto Society (1980). A lifelong student of traditional swordsmanship and restoration, he continues to share the art, discipline, and health principles of Japan’s warrior traditions with students around the world.
